Thorough up to a point, but missing some topics that are important to consumer photographic applications.

This book is thorough in terms of modeling monochrome sensors and effects on applications like remote sensing and intelligence gathering. However, it has little or nothing on practical processing for ordinary photographic use (although the reason may be partly that much of that is proprietary to camera makers in their efforts to make pleasing pictures). There is nothing at all regarding color imaging, filter mosaics and de-mosaicing. I wavered on the star rating, since this book covers basic image quality issues quite well, but is missing the aforementioned topics.
