An essential resource for anyone working with IR optics

Although the price of the set may seem steep, it is well worth it for any engineer working with infrared optics given the amount of time it will save. All the chapters are written by various contributing authors, but all seem fairly well written and carefully edited. The focus is on military applications of infrared optics, which is the field I work in at the US Army Research Laboratory, but those dealing with environmental remote sensing and other fields may also find it quite useful. The amount of detail about military infrared target acquisition, surveillance, and countermeasure systems is incredible and the authors are respected authorities in the military research and development community.

Excellent Set to add to your Bookshelf

Having owned the "The Infrared Handbook" since 2001, I decided to start acquiring as much of the IR technology books I could get my hands on. Even though I had the electronic copies, still acquired "The Infrared and Electro Optical Systems Handbook" (8 Volume Set)" and haven't regretted it one bit. The books are of excellent quality and a valuable resource for learning infrared. As anything within the high technology sectors, the references to specific manufactures of detectors, sources, optics, etc... will be dated, but the underlying physics explanations haven't changed. Depending on your field of expertise not all of the books will be applicable. Be very careful on the multitude of used sellers and ensure you know what you are getting. Several of them are only offering a one or two volumes and not the complete set. Volume, Name, and Editor listed below:
